Write a statement explaining your final photo essay in complete sentences.
What is the subject for your photo essay and where did you take your photographs? The subject for my photo essay is yellow and they were taken in my backyard
Why did you select this place? Why is it important to you? I selected my back yard only because it was easiest but the color yellow is important because i've always seen feelings as colors, for example red is anger green is envy purple is passionate and yellow is happiness. As you probably know I tend to be a negative person and i've used the color yellow as almost a gateway to include some positivity and happiness throughout my day.
What concept are you trying to portray about this topic? Happiness is everywhere you just have to look for it.
Visually, how did your images capture the narrative or “story” of your essay? Every image contains something yellow within it creating a ¨hidden happiness¨ effect within all of them. The yellow object is always one of the focus' of the photo.
Discuss: the order and arrangement of your photos and how you visually unified the series of photos? (2) In the order I tried to spread out the photos that were similar, for example I spread out the portraits and the close ups into different lines. I unified all the photos by incorporating the same color yellow into each photo. Which photo is the strongest in the series? Describe the composition (2) (viewpoint, angle, lighting, etc) and/or technical aspects / editing (2) of one of the photos. The strongest photo is the 5th photo in the series. It contains the rule of thirds because the subject is the slightly off to the left . It also has a great color contrast between the cool colors in the background and the warm yellow in the focus. The viewpoint is below her pointing up because I had crouched down to be lower then her and pointed the camera up at her. When editing the photo I slightly brought up the saturation to make the colors more vibrant and then I chose a the yellow that i had been using on all of the other photos and then I lightly painted over the yellows in the photo to make them all cohesive.
