TERM 1
Line and Shape
Line and Shape Black and White
What locations and subject matter did you choose to shoot for your photos?
Describe the photos you took:What is the distance in the shot? (How close or far away are you from your subject?)What was your point of view when you took the photos? (from above, below, straight on...)
Are your photographs horizontal or vertical?Did you consider the rule of thirds to compose your shots? In which photos? Describe.
Which one of of your photos is a dynamic composition that successfully leads the viewer’s eye through the work?
All of the photos I took were taken within my backyard, and I chose to take photos of fences houses and nature. Most of the photos i took were either taken straight on or at a slight angle to make the photo more interesting. For example the photo of the tree was taken vertically and straight on but at a pretty decent distance away. Like the tree photo all of my photos were taken vertically at a pretty decent distance away except the photos of the stairs and the fence where I got closer to one part of it to make the effect that the line was carried much farther then it actually was. Also I don't think I really used the rule of thirds while taking the photos because in most of them the subject matter is pretty close to the center. I think the photo that is the most dynamic is the tree photo and carries the eye up the tree around to the leaves that are in the foreground

Pattern and Texture
Describe your best photo:
My best photo was of the rusted bolt because it has a dark black and a bright white which means its close to being properly exposed and you can see the texture of the rust really well.
What is the distance in the shot? (How close or far away are you from your subject?)What was your point of view when you took the photos? (from above, below, straight on...)Is your photograph horizontal or vertical?Does this photo follow the rule of thirds? Why or why not? (Describe). Is this photo an example of pattern, texture and/or rhythm? Explain.
This photo was taken straight on and very up close to the bolt at a horizontal point of view. I believe it does follow the rule of thirds because two of the screws fall in places where the rule of thirds is in place. This photo is an example of texture because of all of the texture that the rust has.
Examine your photos and answer the following questions:
Which image may be
overexposed ? (too bright) Why? Which area/areas is/are too bright?Which image is
underexposed ? (too dark) Which area/areas is/are too dark?Which image is the best example of a
properly exposed photo? Explain why
The photo that is probably overexposed is the photo of the pinecone because the sky behind the pinecone is super bright because the photo was taken facing the sun. Because the photo is over exposed all the information behind the pinecone is lost. The image that is most likely underexposed is the rusted lock because the lock itself is super dark and you start to lose a little bit of the texture. The best example of a properly exposed is the bolt because it contains both a dark black and a bright white.

Powerlines and Playgrounds
Which photo best demonstrates the rule of thirds to compose the shot? Why ?
Image 6 best demonstrates the Rule of thirds because even though the telephone pole is in the center, the powerlines are off center and some land in the places where the rule of thirds applies.
Which photo best demonstrates consideration of distance and/or point of view? Why?
Image 5 best demonstrates distance because I am decently far away and it leads your eye to the back of the photo and it shows a different perspective of the powerlines.
Which image do you feel best showcases positive and negative shapes? How/why?
Image 4 best shows positive and negative space because rectangles and triangles of negative space are created by the crossing of the powerlines.
Which photo is the best example of a strong composition what successfully leads the viewers eye though the work? Describe/ Explain.
Image 6 shows the best example of a strong composition because the telephone pole leads your eye up and the powerlines lead your eyes back and down the photo to the base of the telephone pole.
Which image do you feel best satisfies the assignment, or showcases what you have learned about composition this term? Why? and/or Explain...
Image 6 because even though its slightly underexposed it incorporates negative space, the rule of thirds and it moves the viewers eyes throughout the photo.
Finally, which photo is the best example of a black and white photo with proper exposure? Explain.
Image 1 is the best example of proper exposure because it contains both a white and a dark black.
*most photos are blurry bc i cracked my camera and it wont get fixed until friday night*.
